A Quick Month!

As I sit here on Sunday, March 31st, I can’t remember a day this late in the year where it was snowing as it is today. Temperature is hovering around 32 degrees and I don’t expect it to get much out of the mid-30’s today. A great day to stay in and write.

Last week we experienced some beautiful 70 degree spring days with buds just about to burst from trees and plants in the area. Tonight we expect to see about a quarter inch of snow with temperatures in the low 20’s so that might very well put a damper on the notion that “spring has sprung”.

Rhonda and I have had an opportunity to take in some great local offerings. Taos had a short film festival last week that ran through the weekend. The festival brought 55 short films from 18 countries ranging from documentary, drama, comedy and animation.

We made two of the showings spending much of Sunday watching the shorts. There were some amazing entries. My favorite was The Shipment , a 25 minute scifi thriller. For a small budget film (which they all were} the animation was every bit as good as the more modern day StarWars movies. Our understanding from the festival host was that most of the production was pretty much a one-man effort. Watch the trailer and you’ll understand why that fact is an amazing accomplishment.

We went out for Rhonda’s birthday to The Love Apple. The restaurant is a small, locally owned shop and specializes organic home cooking. They are located in a structure built in the 1800’s known as the Placitas Chapel. It was a catholic church which operated for over 100 years. Food was great and we were surprised to find that one of Rhonda’s friends had secretly ordered a very nice bottle of french sparkling wine that was waiting for us at our table. Food is great, the ambiance romantic and all within walking distance of downtown.
